Chae, John, B.S.E., M.E., M.D.

"My research interests are in the areas of stroke mechanisms and rehabilitation, and neuroplasticity and motor relearning. My active projects include:

  1. Assessing the efficacy of EMG-controlled neuromuscular stimulation in enhancing the upper extremity motor recovery of stroke survivors.
  2. Assessing the efficacy of EMG-controlled neuromuscular stimulation in enhancing the lower extremity motor recovery of stroke survivors.
  3. Elucidating the relationship between abnormal EMG activation patterns in the hemiparetic lower limg and clinical measures of lower limg motor impairment and mobility.
  4. Assessing the effects of EMG-triggered neuromuscular electrical stimulation with simultaneous contraction of the contralateral limb versus EMG-triggered neuromuscular electrical stimulation alone on EMG activation patterns in upper limb hemiparesis."
